Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Architecture and design

A business school graduate with over five years’ professional experience in internal audit and international finance, her extreme sensitivity, passion for fashion and desire to contribute to Cameroon’s social, economic and ecological development pushed Gaëlle Edou out of her comfort zone, resigning from her job to follow her childhood dream and passion for fashion and create Sartoria Gaecy.

Gaëlle Edou, born in 1992 in the south of her beloved Cameroon, is now a fashion designer and promoter of the brand and company Sartoria Gaecy; an African fashion house offering high-quality sartorial creations with a strong social impact.

Her first steps in the field took shape in 2020 with the Talent de créateurs and Artistes IFC en création awards respectively from the Centre des Créateurs de Mode du Cameroun and the Institut Français au Cameroun, thanks to the brand’s mission to preserve local craft heritage.

This blossoming was followed by a flight to both local and international performances, as the brand took part in Fashion Week at the Yaoundé Hilton and was invited to several events including NEWBELL FEST in Bordeaux, the Nouveau Sommet Afrique France in Montpellier and FOCUS CAMEROUN in Paris.

The process of creating the brand is intended to have an impact, because behind this haute couture company are dozens of young people emerging from Cameroon’s significant unemployment rate, small suppliers and a social economic model.

They use fashion and the clothing industry as a lever for economic, social and ecological development, by :

– contributing to the preservation of local artisanal cultural heritage through the use of woven, dyed and embroidered fabrics;

– enhancing the status of women and vulnerable young people in rural areas of Cameroon, by offering a range of fashion training courses;

– safeguarding the environment and the well-being of the skin by choosing to use organic and/or recycled materials;

– aiming for “Zero Waste” by transforming our fabric scraps into fashion and home accessories to reduce our carbon footprint.

Their high-quality sartorial creations in terms of ready-to-wear, made-to-measure confections, fashion and home accessories for elegant everyday wear as well as for events, are aimed at any individual or company sensitive to originality, meticulous finishing and eco-responsibility.
