Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

A multidisciplinary artist, researcher and figure in the world of editorial illustration, Magdy Elshafee blends critical analysis with graphic design in his work. After years of interpreting current affairs through his drawings, he is dedicating his residency at the Cité des Arts to an ambitious graphic novel. His project, ‘Layers’, goes beyond technique to explore alienation and social stratification. By manually reappropriating digital layers, he offers a “tactile rebellion” against the coldness of the machine. A work at the crossroads of visual storytelling and philosophy, which challenges both the viewer and the publisher on the organic truth of the image.

Music

Saad Elbaraka is a sound artist, performer, songwriter and multi-genre music producer. Born in Casablanca, his work is deeply influenced by his environment.
