Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Cinema

Malaury Eloi Paisley is a filmmaker and visual artist. She lives and works in Guadeloupe.

She studied art history and museology at the Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris III, and fine arts at UQAM in Montreal. She returned to Guadeloupe in 2016 to take a course in documentary filmmaking at the Ateliers Varan. There she made her first short film, Chanzy Blues. It was a decisive period, consolidating her commitment to documentary filmmaking and photography as powerful means of exploring the human experience and socio-political context in Guadeloupe. She then embarked on a long period of research and reflection on the city of Pointe-à-Pitre, with a long-term project entitled “L’homme-Vertige”, between 2017 and 2023.

In 2019, she will also be training at the International Film School of Cuba (EICTV) in the aesthetics of documentary film with Brazilian director Marcos Pimentel. She has been film coordinator and programmer at Varan Caraïbe since April 2017, where she works with director Sylvaine Dampierre to develop distribution, programming and image education activities, and runs documentary filmmaking workshops.
