Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

John Gade

Music

Born in 1997 in Cannes, John Gade is a French pianist, violinist and composer.

Despite his young age, the artist has already studied music with many great piano masters in France and abroad. He studied with Denis Pascal and Frank Braley at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. He continued his studies at the Buchmann-Mehta School of music in Tel Aviv, Israel in the class of Emanuel Krasovsky. Currently, John Gade is deepening his art with the great Russian professor Igor Lazko at the Schola Cantorum.

He has also taken master classes with Philippe Bianconi, Bertrand Chamayou, Ivry Gitlis, Misha Kats, Khatia Buniatishvili, and is regularly advised and guided by the great pianist Bruno Rigutto.

This young talent began to show his musical genius in his teens at various competitions and performances. He won the 1st prize at the “Virtuoses du cœur” competition in Paris in 2017, is laureate of the Hauts de France international competition in 2018, 1st prize at the Claude Bonneton international competition in Sète, obtains the grand prize of the Académie Ravel in Saint-Jean de Luz in 2019, as well as the Alain Marinaro grand prize at the Collioure international competition in 2019, 2nd prize at the Albert Roussel international competition. He is appointed pianist ambassador of the Banque Populaire foundation at the Mediterranean in 2021.

He has performed under the direction of Philippe Bender and Jean-Jacques Kantorov, at the Bagatelle Chopin Festival, at the Lisztomanias festival in Chateauroux, at the “Nuits musicales du Suquet” festival in Cannes, at the “C’est pas classique” festival in Nice, at the “Piano en Valois” festival in Angoulême, in Bordeaux at the “Esprit du Piano” festival with pianist Philippe Bianconi, at the Maeght foundation in Saint-Paul de Vence as well as at the Ile Seguin music scene in Boulogne. In 2014, at the festival “films en concert” in Lambersart, he has composed a trio and a duo for films by Emil Cohl and Charlie Chaplin.

Curating

Antonia Gaeta (Italy, 1978) graduated in Conservation of Cultural Property from the University of Bologna.

After a Master’s degree in Curatorial Studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon, she obtained a Doctorate in Contemporary Art at the College of Arts, University of Coimbra, Portugal.

Antonia Gaeta has developed research and exhibition projects with several art institutions in Portugal and abroad, having also published numerous texts for catalogs, specialized magazines and exhibition programs. At the Direção-Geral das Artes (Ministry of Culture), she was executive coordinator of Portugal’s official representations at the Venice (2009 and 2011) and São Paulo (2008 and 2010) art biennales.

In 2015, she was assistant curator of the Angola Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale. Since that same year she has also been developing curatorial projects for the Treger Saint Silvestre collection of art brut. Finally, in 2019, she will inaugurate Verão in Lisbon, a space for experimentation in the visual arts.

Gaya is a self-taught visual artist who moved to Tahiti in 2003, where he immersed himself in the island’s vibrant culture and landscape to fuel his creative journey. Over time, he has honed his skills across a wide range of traditional and contemporary techniques, constantly pushing the boundaries of his craft. Gaya’s work is marked by its eclectic nature, as he explores diverse themes that reflect his personal interpretation of modern Polynesia. Through his art, he captures the dynamic interplay between tradition and modernity, offering a fresh perspective on the evolving identity of the region. His art has been showcased in prominent venues, including the Museum of Tahiti and the Islands, as well as several esteemed galleries across Polynesia, where his unique approach continues to captivate audiences and inspire dialogue about the cultural landscape of the Pacific.
