Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Raymond Gemayel

Year/s of residence : 2020, Cité internationale des arts

Visual arts

Raymond Gemayel enjoys soaking it (his body) in chlorinated waters and toxic seas. If he would describe his practice in a drawing, and describe this drawing, he would describe a triangle, with angles of language, body and territory. in this triangle, water is floating.

During his residency at the Cité internationale des arts (first as a laureate of the Visual Arts committees, then of the CAPSULE program), Raymond Gemayel will trace and retrace this triangle.

Music

Charlotte Gemmill is professionally known as Eliott, an Australia songwriter and artist, known for her heartfelt lyrics and soulful vocals.

Charlotte grew up small town of Cobram, Victoria, Australia. At four-years-old, she was singing, and at 14, she was penning her first original songs on guitar. In 2016, she packed her bags and went to Sydney to stay with family in the Blue Mountains. Here, in this insular, quiet enclave away from the noise of the city, Eliott was able to focus on her craft.

Eliott’s debut EP, Bold Enough was recorded with her trusted collaborator, Jack Grace who resides in Paris. The EP is filled with songs that deal with the inner turmoil of growing up and trying to find your place in the world.

In 2019, Eliott sold out a headline tour in Australia, having won fans supporting both Dean Lewis and Matt Corby on national tours, following a European tour with Dean Lewis.

Emerging as one of Australia’s most exciting and talented new artists, Eliott is signed to Island Records Australia and a global publishing deal with Downtown.

Eliott is currently writing for her debut album, which will be released globally through Island Records in 2020.

Daniele Genadry

Year/s of residence : 2022, Cité internationale des arts

Visual arts

Daniele Genadry works with different media to observe how distance, light and movement affect visual experiences. Her practice revolves around the relationship between painting and photography, and through it, she considers the potential of an image to generate its own temporality (light), and how a mediated field of vision can sensitize our perception.

She lives and works in Lebanon and teaches at the American University of Beirut.

Daniele Genadry studied at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire and the Slade School of Art, London. She has participated in residencies at the Bronx Museum, Anderson Ranch Art Center (USA), Fondazione Ratti (Italy) and Frans Masereel Centrum (Belgium).
In 2013-2014, she was awarded the Bogliasco Foundation Fellowship (Italy, 2019). She has recently exhibited at the Beirut Art Center, MUCEM, Sharjah Biennial 13, Biennial del Sur, Sursock Museum, Gypsum Gallery, Taymour Grahne Gallery, SMBA, Bronx Museum and Fondazione Pastificio Cerere.
