Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Brandon Gercara lives and works in La Réunion.

They are an artist-researcher, queer and decolonial activist.

A graduate of the École Supérieure d’Art de La Réunion, their work focuses on a critical study of the dynamics of domination in a post-colonial context. They are developing a multidisciplinary practice that includes performance, photography, video and installation.

An artist associated with the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain de La Réunion and the APILAB / ESA Réunion research laboratory, they are is the founder of Requeer and the organiser of the Marches des Visibilités LGBTQIA+ de La Réunion.

In 2022, they were selected for the Salon de Montrouge and the Casablanca Biennial and were invited to present their research at the Jeu de Paume in Paris and the CCCOD in Tours. In 2023, they presented a duo show with the artist Esther Ferrer at the Transpalette in Bourges, and was selected for the Rencontres Photographiques de Guyane biennial.

Their work is a response to the multiple oppressions in Réunion. LGBTpobe hatred takes the form of violence: cyber-harassment, physical and moral aggression, arson and homophobic tagging in Réunion’s first LGBTQIA+ centre. These are all situations experienced by the artist, and denounced through their visual and activist work. Today Brandon Gercara is developing the ‘Majik Kwir’ project, inviting a number of artists to collaborate with them.

Visual arts

Chamika Germain, a Guadeloupean visual artist from Saint-Martin, draws on her personal history and the Caribbean collective memory to explore the realities experienced by children in care and the fragility of family dynamics. Her work, combining sculpture, painting, and installation, questions resilience, absence, and emotional transmissions. She uses raw materials such as rebar or glass, creating a dialogue between fragility and strength.
