Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Noé Grenier is a visual artist and filmmaker. Born in 1987 in the Alps (Le Pra, Saint Dalmas le Selvage), he obtained a Diplôme national supérieur d’expression plastique at ESBA-MOCO in 2011 (Montpellier) and continued his studies at the Fresnoy Studio National des Arts Contemporains between 2014 and 2016.

Cinema is one of her major sources of creation and reflection. Through the practice of found-footage and experiments with matter, his recent work tackles false memories in cinema, memory alterations, and the phenomena of disappearance or, on the contrary, resilience of images and memories.

He is currently working on two films: an essay on the restoration of works of art and a documentary on the permanence of a place threatened with destruction. His research into the ethical and artistic issues of care and attachment to things questions the delicate practices of conservation, our need to “make things last” and things’ own capacity for resistance.

He is also working on collaborative exhibition projects and co-directing films with Gwendal Sartre and Gilles Ribero. The three artists are developing a digital art project on “duckbill” horse drawings, a characteristic figure in cave art.

His latest experimental short, Les images qui vont suivre n’ont jamais existé, won Best Film in Competition at the Mostra internazionale del Nuovo Cinema di Pesaro in 2022. He has also presented his work at numerous international film festivals, including FIFA (Montreal), Festival of (In)appropriation (Los Angeles), Festival des Cinémas Différents et Expérimentaux de Paris, IndieLisboa (Lisbon), Fracto (Berlin), Festival de l’histoire de l’art de Fontainebleau…
