Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Vera Hector

Year/s of residence : 2023, 2–12

Cinema

Vera Hector is a filmmaker and artist whose practice encompasses film, sound and poetry.

Her work revolves around memory and its disjunctive nature, in particular the ways in which specific experiences distort and destroy memories, leaving behind only fragments.
And it is from these fragments, marks and repentances – what is erased is preserved in the interlacing – that her approach is organized.

Visual arts

Mona Hedayati is an Iranian-Canadian artist-researcher and a joint PhD candidate in interdisciplinary humanities at Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in Society & Culture, Concordia University, Canada and the digital arts doctorate program at Antwerp Research Institute for the Arts, University of Antwerp, Belgium.

Her current interdisciplinary research-practice draws on memory, trauma and sensory studies through engaging with the tools of computation arts. She has a BA in literary and translation studies, an MFA in digital media and an MRes in social-political art and design.

Her most recent body of work has been focused on ineffability of displacement: the embodied and affective dimension of such experiences that open up the path towards sensory intertwinement where she responds through constructing sensorial installations that link memory and emplacement using simulation technologies. Hedayati has exhibited and presented on her work internationally and across Canada at institutions such as Slade School of Fine Arts, University of Manchester’s Whitworth Gallery and University of St Andrews in the UK as well as UBC and Agnes Etherington Art Center at Queen’s University in Canada.
