Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Mathilde Lauret is a deaf visual artist-researcher, born in the Paris area before moving to Reunion Island when she was around 5 years old. She graduated in 2020 with a DNSEP from the École Supérieure d’Art de La Réunion. Her interdisciplinary practice combines a research-driven approach, sensory perception, sound ecology, as well as the memories and materiality of silence through sculpture, drawing, photography and installation. She explores the relationship between landscape and body, shaped by her island heritage and particular sensory perspective. Inspired by “soundscape” and “deafscape” concepts, she developed “vibrophony” and “persilence”. Exhibited in Italy, China, France and Reunion Island, she won the Jury Prize at the Ciboguang International Exhibition Center (China) in 2024.

Gros Lauvland graduated from the Oslo School of Architecture (1988) and then spent a year as an intern at the Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts. Since 1990, she has worked as a practicing architect and writer, in addition to researching and teaching. She has been interested in the importance of place, and in understanding the connections between theory and practice within the field of architecture. After completing a master’s degree in urbanism at AHO in 2003, she wrote the PhD thesis Works and conditions (2007). The PhD work was continued when, as a postdoctoral fellow at NTNU, she delved into the topic of architectural criticism. In addition to working as an architect and writer, she is currently an associate professor at NTNU, where she teaches master’s students in architecture.
