Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Eymric Moderne is an artist from Martinique, whose island origins have led him to explore various artistic challenges. Recently, the confinement period allowed him to express both the nature of being and the observable nature that can be reinterpreted.

Through drawing and painting, Eymric spontaneously creates dreamlike compositions that reference his daily experiences, where he confronts his imagination with reality. He personifies flora and fauna to pay tribute to the people and situations he encounters, structuring his own pictorial language by addressing his subconscious. He offers a lush landscape of thought that harmonizes with the environment around him.

In his practice of photographic self-portraiture, he questions the origins of his own body—a fantasized body that one desires, a body in search of its own identity, a frustrated body that, through imagery, allows for corporeal expression. Here, corporeality aligns with identity, and appearance becomes real. It is a response to the internal and external violence inflicted, whether desired or rejected, crafting a poetic yet silent narrative of natural adornments, at least for the time it takes to heal these gendered stereotypes.

A body in rhythm, or the rhythm of the body through its atavistic poses, at the moment when the unconscious allows for this unveiling. It becomes a challenge with a perspective that is both dignified and aesthetic.

A silence disrupted by deprivation, assignment, and categorization, with denial reaching its peak.

Eymric Moderne has pursued various artistic training programs, including at the Caribbean Campus of the Arts in Martinique and the École de Recherche Graphique (La Cambre) in Belgium. He has exhibited collectively in Martinique and participated in an auction with Drouot online. His most recent solo experience was exhibiting at Tropiques Atrium (National Stage).
