Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Olivier Muller is a French choreographer and visual artist. His artistic practice circulates between performance, installation and photography. After a Master’s degree in Plastic Arts and a DNSEP from the Beaux-Arts de Marseille, Olivier Muller took part in various group exhibitions. At the same time, he worked as a performer with Christophe Haleb on various site-specific and stage projects (Eveline House Of Shame, Atlas But Not List, Fama, Communextase, Entropic Now and a solo for young audiences, Retour sur Terre). He has also worked with Christophe Honoré on the film Les Métamorphoses, Yves-Noël Genod and Gurshad Shaeman, and discovered assistant work with David Wampach’s URGE.

In 2015 he joined the Master EXERCE program at ICI-CCN in Montpellier, directed by Christian Rizzo. During these two years he was able to collaborate with Jennifer Lacey, Didi Dorvillier, Volmir Cordeiro, Miguel Gutierrez, Myriam Van Imschoot, Vincent Dupont, Laurent Pichaud. Since 2018 He has been working with choreographer Mette Ingvartsen in the piece TO COME (extended).
In 2018, he presented his first solo Hoodie at the Parallèle festival in Marseille, for which he received a creation grant from the Pôle Art de la Scène de la friche Belle de Mai. He also took part in the Summer Program at the Wattermill Center directed by Robert Wilson. In 2021, he presented Horrible Pugilist Brother, a second solo at the Uzès Danse festival. His choreographic work is presented at various festivals and theaters in France.

His photographic work is part of the collections of the Agnes b endowment fund and the Villa Noailles.
In 2021, he won the Grand Prize for Photography at the Villa Noailles International Fashion Festival with his project Le Tropique du Yucca.

For him, in-between spaces, indeterminate and monstrous forms, in the process of evolving or declining, are vessels through which he questions the principle of metamorphosis, the ultimate weapon and resource in the face of the oncoming flood of change. The objects he produces can be scenic/performative, or take the form of photographic stagings and landscape installations, where man’s place in his environment is questioned in a quasi-allegorical way.
Since 2015 he has been collaborating with photographer Emma Charrin on a project around the Mediterranean entitled Des Rives-Provisoire. This project was supported by the agnès b endowment fund. The Baltellala series is on show at FRAC Grand Large – Hauts-de-France in Dunkirk, with the group exhibition Un autre monde///dans notre monde. Their Laporello Baltellala is now part of the Frac Sud publishing collection.
