Artists in residence
Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Samira Negrouche

Literature
Born in Algiers where she lives, Samira Negrouche is a poet, author, and translator. A doctor by training, she devotes herself to writing. Sensitive to borders, whether physical, linguistic, or symbolic, she is particularly fond of interdisciplinary creations. This has resulted in several artists’ books, with Marc Giai-Miniet and Ali Silem among others, and shows such as Quai 2I1 created in 2018 with musicians Marianne Piketty and Bruno Helstoffer and Traces created in 2019 with choreographer Fatou Cissé.
A major voice in Algerian poetry, her work has appeared in numerous anthologies and collective publications. She has been translated into over thirty languages. Her publications include À l’ombre de Grenade, Éditions Marty (2003), Le Jazz des oliviers, Éditions du Tell (2010), Six arbres de fortune autour de ma baignoire, Éditions Mazette (2017), Quai 2I1, partition à trois axes, Éditions Mazette (2019) and Traces, Fidel Anthelme X (2021).
In 2020, The Olive Trees’ Jazz and other poems, her selected work translated and introduced by American poet Marilyn Hacker, was published in a bilingual edition by Pleiades Press. The book was a finalist in 2021 for the National Translation Award in Poetry and the Dereck Walcott Prize for Poetry.
