Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Literature

Emmelyne Octavie is an unclassifiable Guyanese artist. Author of poetry, theater, fiction, chronicles, songs, she is also a poetic and dramatic performer.

She wields the pen and says the words. She proclaims life.

Since 2016, the actress has been touring a show entitled Battements de Mots (Beatings of Words) which has taken off to many parts of the world (Brazil, Kurdistan, English West Indies, Guyana).

She has been rewarded on several occasions for her work and artistic commitment, notably with her single COGNE, a true plea against violence against women. Selected in 2019 for the Carbet des Lycéens Prize for her book Comme un clou dans le cœur, the author has just been awarded the prize for her play Mère Prison dans les Inédits d’Afrique et d’Outre-mer (Mother Prison in the Unpublished Works of Africa and Overseas, 2020 edition).

Emmelyne Octavie continues her journey by writing about her works and her poetic words.
