Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Theater

Gerardo Oettinger has been developing his career as a playwright and director for seventeen years. Twenty of his plays have been performed in Chile, his native country, as well as abroad, and six have been published. He trained with the Chilean playwright Juan Radrigán, at the Royal Court Theatre in London, and with Alejandro Tantanian in Argentina.

He explores political theatre by drawing on historical facts, testimonies, and field research. His approach, which he calls “archéologie théâtrale“, unearths memories forgotten by official history and brings marginalised voices to light.

In residence at the Cité internationale des arts, he is writing La Fracture, a play that addresses violence as a political tool. Inspired by the disagreement between Camus and Sartre regarding its use, it sets these reflections against the backdrop of the 2019 Chilean social revolt, in which Gerardo actively participated, and the 2023 riots in France following the police killing of Nahel Merzouk.

For this project, he collaborates with filmmaker Carmen Castillo and performer Marcela Santander.
