Artists in residence
Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Lola Ayisha Ogbara (b.1991) is a Nigerian-American artist and curator from Chicago, Illinois. Ogbara explores haptic (sub)conscious frameworks, utilizing the body form, as well as its absence, to contemplate the complexities of emotion, belonging, looking/seeing, labor, time, and space. Working across sculpture, sound, time-based media, and image-making through installations, Ogbara explores collective memory and ecologies of embodied knowledges. She earned a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis.

Wura-Natasha Ogunji

Wura-Natasha Ogunji is a visual artist and performer. Her works include drawings hand-stitched into tracing paper, videos and public performances. Her work is deeply inspired by the daily interactions and frequencies that occur in the city of Lagos, Nigeria, from the epic to the intimate. Wura-Natasha Ogunji’s performances explore the presence of women in public space; these often include investigations of labor, leisure, freedom and frivolity.
For her residency, she will create a memoir of Lagos in the form of large-scale drawings and hand-stitched texts. Parallel to these investigations, she will develop a series of workshops which explore and expand the genre of memoir through collective performances which focus on language and mark-making; family histories and body memory; utopias and their opposites.
