Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Music

Based in Cologne, pianist Vittoria Quartararo performs throughout Europe and enjoys a varied career as a soloist, teacher, collaborative pianist, and creator of transdisciplinary projects. She received her piano training in Italy at the Scuola Musica Fiesole with Valentina Pagni and Andrea Lucchesini and continued her musical studies in Germany at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Jacob Leuschner, Claudio Martinez-Mehner, and David Smeyers in contemporary music.

In her solo projects, she covers a wide range of musical works and presents communicative performances of repertoires in which classical gems are heard and new musical discoveries from the contemporary scene. Her debut CD as a soloist was dedicated to the piano works of Henri Dutilleux (PIANOCLASSICS/Brilliant Classics 2021), received critical attention, and was featured by several European radio stations (including RaiRadio3, Rete Toscana Classica, NDR Germany). Modern music brought her into contact with various artistic personalities from the fields of dance, theatre, literature, and visual arts, allowing her to alternate between traditional concert evenings and more experimental forms of performance.

Vittoria is a classically trained pianist who burns for the arts – therefore, the experimental forms of music theater particularly fascinate her, and since 2019, she has been working mostly interdisciplinary and collectively. The stage, for her, is ideally a place embodying the present time; vice versa, she often thinks of the present time as a stage: in her work, she tries to move not only “in” or “through” an environment but “with” it. Themes such as border, periphery, ambiguity, and counterpoint greatly interest her and are often linked to the interdependence of human and non-human relationships, both in the arts and reality.
