Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Jody Rallah is a yuggera/yugggerabul and biri/bindal artist from Meeanjin/Brisbane. Rallah creates ‘knowledge vessels’ using various mediums and practices across object making and painting, sculptural installation, facades and thoroughfares, soundscapes and collaborative intergenerational approaches. She creates both large-scale and intimate forms to embody living histories and to explore an evocative sensibility with material creations and iconography.

Rallah investigates how the aliveness of place is encoded in memory spaces, and how a haptic hands-on approach to art making and design can foster inclusive conversations by inviting curiosity about relationships with Country, the built environment and our place within it. Through the art-making process, Rallah is passionate about re-embedding First Nations knowledge back into the built environment by collaborating with Elders and organisations to create spaces and vessels that are inviting and alive with movement, memory and narratives.

Julie Ramage, born in 1987 in France, is a visual artist and doctor in History and Semiology of Text and Image.

Her projects question institutional spaces such as penitentiary centers, on both a documentary and collaborative basis. The setting up of field surveys and collective research protocols allows her to generate encounters, speaking situations that provide the material for performances, micro-editions and installations. This research-creation approach is validated by regular collaborations with researchers from various disciplines.

Her work has been presented in France (Centre Pompidou, Cité internationale des arts, CENTQUATRE, Musée de l’Homme, Chapelle des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Le Cube, Maison Européenne de la Photographie…), the United States, Argentina and Spain.

“During my residency, I had the opportunity to work on the post-production of my project Ghostmarkets and to develop a second chapter, nourished by the encounters and collaborations initiated during my stay. This privileged time gave me the necessary time, in a context strongly marked by the economic insecurity of the cultural actors, to work at ease and in a context of intense intellectual emulation.”
