Born in Martinique, Roseman Robinot left to train as a physical education and sports teacher in mainland France.

At the age of twenty-one, she graduated and was posted to her homeland to teach. In 1965, she joined a dance troupe, the Groupe folklorique martiniquais, also known as the Grand Ballet de Martinique, directed by Louis Boislaville and the American choreographer Ronnie Aul. During a trip by the Martinique company to New York, she discovered La Repasseuse (1904) by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) at the Guggenheim, which, she says in retrospect, gave birth to her as a painter. In 1968, R. Robinot obtained a position in the Île-de-France region. For a decade, she studied the arts and practised colourist painting. From 1971, she exhibited in Paris, notably at the 8th Salon des peintres et sculpteurs des Antilles et de la Guyane.

Roseman Robinot’s visual practice focuses on the memory traces imprinted on living landscapes and bodies, real or uncreated, imbued with the scent of colonial times. Using the indigenous petroglyph of Mahury as a starting point, the artist embarks on an exploration of identity (the American Creole archipelago, Afro-descendence), experimenting with a ‘neo-indigenist’ style, following the process developed in the Caribbean – particularly in Haiti and Guyana. Following in the footsteps of the Afrofeminist anthropology of Zora Neale Hurston, Beryl Gilroy and Suzanne Roussi-Césaire, Roseman Robinot, who is also an author, gathers (im)material data from her exposure to the North Amazonian terrain during independent studies and research visits, which she then breathes into her works.

Since the play A Short Term Effect (2006), Alexandre Roccoli has placed the question of memory and its alterations at the heart of his concerns, questioning the fiction processes at work in mental reconstruction work. The body becomes the instrument of an archaeological and/or futuristic excavation that navigates freely between temporal imaginaries.

His collaborations with artists of the electronic or techno scene thus make the link between archaic, tribal or ritual bodies and their contemporary re-actualizations, at the time of techno-sapiens: the illusory body of the theatre (Last last last with Pantha du Prince), the subjugated body of workers (Drama per musica with Ellen Allien) or the astronomical body and its potential cybernetics (The chronicles of possible worlds with Jeff Mills) embody as many figures of fantasized memory bodies.

Alexandre Roccoli most often matures his projects in the context of places of deprivation of liberty. The rooms often drew their aesthetic materials during observation and workshop times in hospitals (general and psychiatric), prisons or retirement homes. The work is carried out with patients, of course (for example, with Alzheimer’s disease or autism), but also in collaboration with the healthcare teams: psychomotricians, psychiatrists, educators or nurses.

ASTE’s plays have been produced and presented nationally and internationally, notably by Les Subsistances, Villa Gillet, Centre Pompidou, Gaité Lyrique, Scène Nationale d’Orléans, Seconde nature festival d’Aix en Provence, Berghain, Radial system, Hebbel am Uffer in Berlin, A-CDC network throughout France, the Moga-Festival, Dar Souirri, the Darja space as well as the Majorelle foundation and the Dar al-Ma’mûn foundation in Morocco and more recently the Galerie Nationale d’art moderne et contemporain de Rome, the Espace des Arts de Malakoff, the Institut du Monde Arabe, the Porte Dorée Museum and the Festival Instances de la Scène Nationale de Chalon sur Saône.

Artist and composer. His instrumental and electroacoustic compositions, as well as his sculptures and installations, emerge from different approaches to the phenomenon of sound.

He stands out for his transdisciplinary creative work, which has led him to use photography and other visual and conceptual aspects of art as a complementary part of his sonic work, being a pioneer in Latin America of sound art and in Mexico of music electroacoustics.

As a creator, curator, researcher and broadcaster. His artistic works have been exhibited at Artist Space NY, the Sydney Biennale in Australia, the Prada Foundation in Venice, the Kunstraum Kreuzberg Bethanien in Berlin, etc. His works have been performed by the Arditti Quartet, pianist Aki Takahashi, etc. He has been commissioned by GRM Paris, the Synthèse festival in Bourges, France, etc. Since 2010, he has been exhibiting at the Le Laboratoire gallery in Mexico City.
