Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

Ludovic Salmon paints service companies, employees in open space, postal workers lost in the countryside, obscure machines, sushi delivery men… He depicts social subjects on oscillating between tragic, fantastic and grotesque elements.

In most of his paintings, the human appears in direct contact with a contemporary world that is disintegrating. The world of work, the speed it induces, symbolic or real violence are recurring subjects in his paintings. Although figurative and marked by a certain culture of the image, his paintings propose a materiality constrained by the gestures of the artist (erasing, scratching…).

Painting is for Ludovic Salmon an intermediate zone, between image and matter, to be deciphered and interpreted. It has a comic, dreamlike and critical force.
