Residency programme for visual artists from the Dominican Republic

The programme

The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in France and the Cité internationale des arts, an artists’ residency centre in Paris, with the support of Banco de Reservas of the Dominican Republic and Banco Múltiple, have jointly developed a research residency programme for Dominican visual artists. The aim of this programme is to encourage and facilitate the mobility of Dominican artists and to expand their professional and artistic networks.

Eligibility criteria

  • Be a Dominican national and have been resident in the Dominican Republic for at least two years at the time of the call for applications.
  • Be a visual artist (whose practice falls within the fields of painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video art, digital art, performance art or a cross-disciplinary practice).
  • Demonstrate at least three years’ professional experience.

Embassy of the Dominican Republic in France

The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in France is the official diplomatic representation of the Dominican Republic to the French Republic. Its mandate is to promote and develop bilateral relations between the two countries in the political, economic, commercial, cultural and cooperation spheres, through initiatives designed and implemented in close coordination with the French authorities and partner institutions. It also works to protect and support the Dominican community living in France.

Banco de Reservas and Banreservas Cultural Centre

The Banco de Reservas of the Dominican Republic is an institution within the Dominican financial sector that plays a leading role in the social development of the country’s various productive sectors. It enjoys international recognition and has been committed to the country’s social and economic well-being since its foundation in 1941. As part of its social responsibility policy, the Banco de Reservas plays a leading role in promoting all activities that contribute to the holistic development of individuals, including through education, sport, literature, music and the visual arts.

The Banreservas Cultural Centre is the Banco de Reservas’ non-profit cultural organisation. Its mission is to promote democratic access to culture, strengthen national identity and contribute to human development through the dissemination and promotion of the Dominican cultural heritage. It also works to promote the arts, reflection, creativity and dialogue amongst the various stakeholders in the cultural sphere. It has two venues, located in the colonial district of Santo Domingo and in the historic centre of the city of Santiago.
