Presentation
EMΣT | The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens and the Cité internationale des arts, Paris, have co-constructed a residency programme for Greek visual artists, working and residing in Greece. The objective of this programme is to encourage and facilitate the mobility of artists and to expand their professional and artistic network.
For this second edition, 4 residencies of 3 months in Paris, at the Cité internationale des arts, will take place. Τhe EMΣT Residency programme is made possible through a grant from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.
The residency
The residencies include:
- Living and working space;
- Living allowance of 1.000 euros per month;
- Support, meetings with other artists and professionals, and networking opportunities organised by Cité internationale des arts;
- Flight from Athens to Paris and back.

Eligibility criteria
To apply, candidates must:
- Be of Greek nationality, work and reside in Greece;
- Work within the field of visual arts;
- Have graduated from an art school in Greece or abroad;
- Have participated in a minimum of three institutional exhibitions (museum, kunsthalle, art centre, non-profit space, public or private foundation);
- Have a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the field of visual arts.
There is no age limit.
The applications will be examined by the EMΣΤ curatorial team who will compile a shortlist, which will be sent to the Cité internationale des arts for the final selection, by qualified professionals.
The selection committee and jury members will pay particular attention to:
- The artistic quality of the portfolio and the proposed research project;
- Justification regarding the relevance of the residency in France and at the Cité internationale des arts;
- The proposed working methodology, as well as contacts or partnerships already established in order to develop the research project during the 3 months period.

How to Apply?
All applications are submitted online.
To submit your application, you need a google account. If you don’t have one, you can create one HERE.
Once your application has been finalised, you will not be able to modify it. Please complete this form as thoroughly as possible. Telephone enquiries will not be answered.
You will need to upload the following documents:
- A detailed curriculum vitae (2 pages maximum), in English;
- An artistic dossier in PDF form, in English, including visuals of works with complete captions and descriptions (40 pages maximum). If applicable – please provide video links and passwords or audio files (mp3, avi)
- A letter of intent, in English, in which the candidates explain the motivations behind their artistic approach and their interest for applying to the residency program. Artists will have to justify their reasons for wanting to participate in the residency programme in Paris and at the Cité internationale des arts, and how they think they will benefit from it, from an artistic point of view, as well as from the point of view of their career and professional network (350 words minimum and 750 words maximum).
- If candidates have a specific research project they would like to propose please provide details.
Applications that do not adhere to the above guidelines/formats/word counts, will not be considered. Multiple applications are not accepted.
Terms and conditions of residency
The laureates will be accommodated in live-in-studios located on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts. With a surface area ranging from 25 to 40m², the live-in-studios are designed to combine creative work and daily life. They consist of a workroom, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. A live-in-studio can accommodate up to two adults and one child up to 10 years old. Additional fees will be charged for accompanying persons.
Unfortunately, the proposed live-in-studios do not meet current accessibility standards for people with disabilities, but efforts are being made to address this for the future.
