Remai Modern x Cité internationale des arts

With our partner Remai Modern

Presentation

To support the development of artistic practices and the international visibility of artists from the Canadian Prairies, Remai Modern (Saskatoon) and the Cité internationale des arts (Paris) have launched a residency programme designed to generate new art and relationships. It welcomes artists and curators who wish to carry out a research and creation project in Paris over a three-month period from January 5 to March 27, 2026.

For this first edition, three artists or curators will be selected.

The programme offers opportunities to meet with artists and cultural professionals, as well as active participation in the life of the Cité internationale des arts and its community of 310 residents from all disciplines, generations, and backgrounds. Selected artists will benefit from a live-in studio, financial support, and tailored professional guidance aimed at developing their research and work.

This residency programme is part of Remai Modern’s commitment to supporting artistic practice and cultural exchange, and Cite’s role to support artists from all horizons.

All the necessary information and practical questions are provided below. Please review these elements before submitting your application.

Conditions of the residency

The programme includes:

• A live-in studio at the Cité internationale des arts (Marais site)
• A monthly stipend of $1,500 CAD (approx. €1,000)
• A monthly stipend for project-related expenses of $500 CAD (approx. €320) per month
• Round-trip economy airfare between the artist’s place of residence and Paris

Travel for artworks is not covered. A final residency report will be required at the end of the stay.

Residents will stay in furnished live-in studios of approximately 40m², each including a sleeping area, kitchenette, bathroom, and workspace, with wifi access.

Throughout the residency, artists will benefit from support by the team at the Cité internationale des arts and its network of partners, in connection with current developments in contemporary creation. Open studio events, as well as meetings with curators and art critics, will offer visibility, new perspectives, and potential collaborations.

Artists of all career stages are eligible; however, preference will be given to those with at least five years of professional practice. Applications from Indigenous artists are especially encouraged.

Applications will be reviewed by a jury composed of representatives from Remai Modern and the Cité internationale des arts consisting of Nataša Petrešin-Bachelez, Arts and Culture Programme Manager at the Cité internationale des arts; Souraya Kessaria, Residency Programmes and Partnerships Manager; Johan Lundh, Co-Executive Director & CEO, Remai Modern; Troy Gronsdahl, Curator, Performance & Public Practice, Remai Modern; Tarah Hogue, Adjunct Curator, Indigenous Art, Remai Modern.

In addition to evaluating the artist’s background, the jury will pay particular attention to the quality of the proposed project, the justification for undertaking a residency in Paris, the proposed working methodology, and any existing or desired contacts in the local scene.
