Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

PERFORMING ARTS
PERFORMANCE

Born in 1988 in Moscow, Soviet Union, Hanna Zubkova is a Belarusian artist who lives and works in Paris and Minsk. She graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), Sorbonne University in Paris and the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) of Lyon in a combination of disciplines ranging from Human Rights in the Media to the Philosophy of Language, Anthropology and Linguistics. Hanna Zubkova works with time-based situations on the crossover of performance, video and installation.

Hanna Zubkova performs delicate interventions into life that give place to poetic interstices in the fabric of the habitual. Drawing on the tradition of Russian actionism and the experience of relational art, she proceeds by the diversion of the usual patterns and trajectories and generates a situation of estrangement (ostranenie). Often almost imperceptible, these micro-events shift conditions to appeal to attention and empathy, while at the same time questioning the current state of society, and are fulfilled thanks to relationships triggered by the encounter between the artist and participants of her performances.
