Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Visual arts

A major figure on the Asian Pacific arts scene, Brook Andrew is an interdisciplinary artist who examines the dominant narratives and questions in Western perspectives, more specifically that of the Australian continent, through the prism of colonialism. For this, the artist works in contact with the communities and draws his inspiration from the archives and public and private collections from around the globe. In France, he is represented by the Nathalie Obadia Gallery.

Long inspired by the wood carving traditions and ceremonial trees of the Wiradjuri nation from which he descends, Brook Andrew will work on the project Alternative perspectives during his residency at the Cité internationale des arts. This project is in relation to the questions of repatriation and restitution of the cultural objects found in museums as well as on an experimental theatrical scenario called GABAN (which means ‘strange’ in Wiradjuri).
