Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Malthe Møhr (b. 1992) tracks and traces his own nostalgia and to what he’s drawn to, placing his work as close to his own subconscious as possible; an often hauntological process packed with pop-culturally charged allusions, DIY film aesthetics, and animal motifs, which seems absurd and subjective but trustworthy nonetheless. Møhr’s practice embraces a naive approach to aesthetics, juxtaposed with real conflicts bearing genuine traumas and violence.

In his recent work, Mega Mighty Monster Morphin, 2022; a scenographic immersive installation consisting of multi-channel video, 9-channel sound set up, aluminum and bronze sculptures, and UV printing on aluminum, Møhr seeks to turn the monomyth on it’s head and recognise the fascistic tendencies in the established. Through this recognition, he aims to confront dark aspects of masculine culture, actively reforming them from within. Møhr intends to uncover the present through historical exploration, identifying which structures merit preservation and which ones demand relearning, remaking, and reshaping.

Møhr holds a combined BFA from Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien and Malmö Art Academy, and a MFA from Malmö Art Academy.
