Baadaye – Pamela Tulizo
© Pamela Tulizo
In her series Baadaye, a Swahili word meaning “after,” Pamela Tulizo gives a voice and visibility to women asylum seekers and refugees in France. At the crossroads of documentary photography, life stories, and social engagement, this project aims to challenge prevailing stereotypes and reposition these women as subjects of their own narratives.
Through their portraits and testimonies, the artist invites her subjects to share stories marked by exile and hardship, while revealing their dignity, courage, and resilience. The image of themselves becomes a space where they allow themselves to freely embody their possibilities and aspirations.
A journalist by training, Pamela Tulizo became interested in the narrative power of images at an early age. In 2015, in her hometown of Goma (Democratic Republic of Congo), she began her photographic practice through contact with photographer friends, gradually appropriating the technical and aesthetic foundations of the medium. Her gaze quickly turned to documentary photography, through which she questions the traditions and representations assigned to women, examines their place, and opens a dialogue between her community and the world.
Pamela Tulizo (Democratic Republic of Congo) is in residence thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture.
The works created for this exhibition were produced in collaboration with France terre d’asile.
