Emil Sandström
deficit
Extrait du projet , 2025 © Emil Sandström
Developed as part of his research into the political and ideological imaginaries of architecture, inspired in particular by the headquarters of the French Communist Party in Paris designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the installation deficit divides the space into two parts and alters its visibility and accessibility. Acting as both a threshold and an enclosure, it creates a new relationship between bodies and architecture, a form of choreography that explores how the design of space induces inclusion and exclusion.
Through a practice that spans photography, sound, sculpture and writing, Sandström explores the material and emotional infrastructures that shape relationships of power and perception.
Emil Sandström (Sweden) is currently in residence through the 2-12 programme.
