Programme for artists and curators based in Nigeria
Programme
Institut français du Nigeria, Art X Lagos and the Cité internationale des arts have co-constructed an annual residency program for visual artists, designers and curators of all nationalities based in Nigeria. Initiated in 2020, the aim of this programme is to facilitate mobility and to support their research, as well as the expansion of their professional network.
During the three-month residency, each selected recipients are in dialogue with a specific professional based in France, benefits from professional networking, with the support of the Cité internationale des arts, as well as financial support.

Eligibility criteria
- Work and live in Nigeria
- Be over 23 years old and have been developing a professional artistic practice for at least 5 years
- Be a visual artist, a designer or a curator
The partner of this programme :
To promote cultural diversity and dialogue between people, France initiated, over a century ago the creation of a vast network of establishments throughout the world : the French cultural network. First established in 1999 under the name “Centre Culturel Français du Nigeria”, the current “Institut Français du Nigeria” (IFN), changed name in 2011, and is located at the heart of the vibrant Wuse 2 neighborhood in Abuja.The IFN, an official service of the French Embassy in Nigeria, is one of the 98 Institut Français spread around the world, and propose French classes and exams as well as artistic and cultural activities.
As a cultural hub, the annual program features a wide variety of events, including concerts, exhibitions, film screenings, literary encounters, debates and symposia. In addition to the French and Francophone creation, which is an integral part of our programming, the IFN pay particular attention to proposing an offer in line with the expectations of the Nigerian public.
