Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Curating

Luise Willer is a curator and researcher based in Berlin. She is a member of the Collaborative Research Center Intervening Arts and is pursuing a PhD in art history at Freie Universität Berlin, focusing on the theme of assembly in contemporary art. She is interested in socially oriented artistic practices, particularly their performative moments and organizational forms. She examines these practices to better understand their visions of the future, collaborative processes, and critiques of institutions. With various institutional and independent partners, she creates collaborative formats aimed at developing sustainable and resilient networks. Since 2023, she has been part of the School of Commons at ZHdK Zurich with the there, there working group. A graduate in global art history from Heidelberg University and museology from the École du Louvre, she has worked in several cultural institutions, including as a research officer at the Contemporary Creation and Prospective Service of the Centre Pompidou. Her writings have been published in exhibition catalogs, academic journals, and art criticism articles.

The research project “on care-full organizing,” initiated by Simona Dvorák and Luise Willer, takes shape as a series of assemblies organized between Berlin and Paris. This initiative aims to create a space for free expression and listening while establishing an active and collaborative protocol for feminist organization. Based on shared experiences, “on care-full organizing” draws on notions such as care, vulnerability, interdependence, and alliance. After a first iteration of the project in Berlin, as part of a collaboration between SAVVY Contemporary and lumbung radio in October 2024, the project now plans to expand to Paris in the coming months.

Luise Willer (Germany) is a laureate of the “DRAC Île-de-France x TRAM x Cité internationale des arts” program.
