Artists in residence

Each year, the Cité internationale des arts welcomes more than 1,000 artists from around the world, offering them a space for creation, research, and exchange in Paris, in the Marais and Montmartre districts. Open to all artistic disciplines—visual arts, music, literature, film, design and architecture, performing arts, and curating—it enables artists to develop their projects in an environment that fosters experimentation and meaningful connections.

Kay Zevallos Villegas (a.k.a Kay) is a performer and director. Trained between Peru and Argentina, she has developed different artistic collaborations in Germany, Spain and France, before starting her study in performing arts in Paris.

As a performer between dance and theatre, she conducts her own research, which she documents through video and photography. In installations, she explores the echoes of bodies, the artist and the spectators, in a singular experience of space.

Immigrant, woman, artist, she focuses on the presentation of a life in the form of performance, nourished by the traditions and myths of the Peruvian Amazon, where she has spent her childhood. Through the interweaving and stratification of individual and collective memories, the intersection between tradition and dramatic and ritual modernity, she reflects on the exchanges between Europe and Latin America. In her eyes, every creative act has a spatial and cartographic dimension that links the body to the world.

During her residency at the Cité internationale des arts, Kay continues her research into the transfiguration of her own body and memory, by using her body as an archive, with a view to renewing the arts of narrative. She will also explore choreographic performance as cartographic writing of sensory experiences, lived through the shamanic rites of the Peruvian Amazon.
